Introduce our Ubox V2
Dear users, thank you for your support and affirmation. Ubox V2 is online.
V2 is not just a 75V ESC, they are a family
The first one to meet you is Ubox V2 75V 100A x 2, and then the upcoming Ubox V2 100V 100A x 2. The V2 100V adopts the size similar to 75V and the layout of panel socket, but it adopts all aluminum case, and the power line and motor phase line are led out from both sides, so as to optimize the current path.
Then V2 remote, V2 adapter.
V2 remote & receiver will be equipped with bootloader respectively to modify the firmware according to the user's opinions after release. V2 adopts color screen because black-and-white screen is not so easy to buy now.
V2 adapter will be redesigned to better support e-scooter, E-bike, and other modified applications. MCU based design may be adopted. It natively supports throttle, brake, front and rear lights, left and right turn signals. We may consider supporting screen display, but now there are many excellent open-source solutions for screen display, so we may give up the screen display plan due to limited development time.
Ubox V2 is a long-brooding project.
Since the founding of sintend, our first product is Ubox. Its performance has been affirmed and encouraged by you. V1 has made us meet many friends all over the world. After summarizing V1's experience and valuable suggestions from user friends, we redesigned V2 75V
In the first half of the year, we were planning a 100V version of dual drive ESC at the same time. In the later design and implementation process, we realized that many parts between 75V and 100V can be shared, so we put these two products under one product family, so we have two main members of V2 family. The two V2 Uboxes retain the same three dimensions as V1, so users do not need to make any changes when upgrading from V1.
V2 features:
- All the 12V,5V, VCC external ports are recoverable fused, all the HALL, TX&RX are serialized with a resistor, ADC1, ADC2, ADC3 are pulled down with a 22K resistor.
- Independent external VCC, the MCU's VCC isolated, and guarded by a TVS.
- Ignite key and meter supported, fused, for e-scooter/e-bike application.
- Three 12V control ports: front light, horn, and brake light! these ports are separated 2pin sockets.
- Cooling fan socket with 12V power source.
- CAN bus insert power on supported, easy for 4WD configuration.
- External NRF(Bluetooth) socket, to replace the former internal BT module, independent from main UART ports, also A/B switchable.
- VCC is 3.44V, 100% compatible with VESC original FW, no more 3.3V VS 3.44V issue.
- External 2.4G receiver antenna.
The built-in receiver of V2 is equipped with a wireless bootloader. When it is combined with u-remote, its firmware can be updated.
V2 brake light also supports a third-party receiver. When a valid PPM signal is detected on the servo socket of ESCB, it will control the output of the brake light.
Regarding V2 75V, since we still have a few V1 cases, we specially designed a PCB compatible with V1 case in the beta version. It is a V2's heart within V1's shell.
The biggest difference between the case of V2 75V and V1 is that the USB socket is changed to flat surface mount type. The vertical mode of V1 is very unfriendly to SMT production, which is easy to be poorly welded. Once there is any defect, it is very difficult to repair. Maybe the horizontal USB will not be so convenient, but to facilitate production and cost control, please understand.
The key ignition support of E-bike is specially added on the logic board of V2. This ignition directly uses the voltage of the power supply, so it will be as high as 75V or even 100V! Therefore, to be safe and prevent users from inserting it by mistake, I design it under the panel and away from other sockets, which will make the installation of ignition key function a little inconvenient. Please understand. At the same time, the ‘Vbatt’ of this socket does not provide users with high current power supply. It is recommended that users' power supply is limited to 300mA. Although it has a 4A fusing fuse protection, the reason why it does not adopt self-recovery is that there is no self-recovery fuse supporting such high voltage.
The beta version
For the beta version of V2 ESC, due to time constraints, we chose the PCB process with safe delivery date, 4oz of 4 layers in contrast, V1 is 5oz4 layers, and the last batch is 6oz, but this 6oz makes us lose a lot. Because the copper foil is too thick, the reflow temperature needs to be adjusted very high to make the components reliably welded. In this way,
V2 uses the connection mode of row pin and row bus for production and maintenance. The row pin and row bus need an additional height of about 2mm. To maintain the height of V1, we reduce the PCB thickness of the power board from 3mm to 2mm and reduce the height of the support table at the bottom of the aluminum case by 1mm.
Three factors make the reported temperature of V2 rise faster than V1:
- When the copper thickness is 1oz, the conductive resistance of the copper foil will be slightly larger, but compared with the subsequent two points, this has a slight impact.
- The temperature sensor is placed on the other side of the MOSFET, so the temperature detection will be affected by the thickness of the PCB. The thicker the PCB, the slower the temperature detection. V2 is 1mm less than v1.
- The heat capacity of the system is reduced by 1oz for copper thickness and 1mm for aluminum case, which will reduce the heat capacity of the whole system and make the temperature rise faster.
The official version of V2 will be changed back to the copper thickness of 5oz, which will improve the heating performance at points 1 and 3.
The MOSFET used for V2 100V is FDBL0200N100 from on-semiconductor, with a nominal maximum internal resistance of 2 milliohm, while fdbl0150n100 continues to be used for 75V, with a nominal maximum internal resistance of 1.5 milliohm. However, when measured, the internal resistance of fdbl0200n100 is about 0.7 milliohm higher than that of fdbl0150n100. Therefore, the increased resistance of single-phase on circuit will be greater than 1.4 milliohm Therefore, the heating of 100V will be slightly larger than that of 75V, which is the price of higher working voltage.
Because the cost of chips and other raw materials has been soaring, we have to raise the price periodically. I'm very sorry.
Remark
V2 logic & power board are redesigned by me, John, with all of my cautious and knowledge, and all the lessons from Ubox V1. We are trying to change a horse in the middle of the river, because we have to switch v1 to V2 seamlessly. It must be built up within V1's structure, so it has its own confined limits, a confined house. I have devoted all my efforts in it.
Since 2020, too many changes have been made in this world. Many of us lost many, some of us lost their family members, some lost their career, business, life, rights…, What has happened and is happening has shaken our beliefs and values, changing our way of life and the direction of civilization. Around us, ugly truths are emerging. In this era of challenges, let's encourage each other and move forward together.
Sincerely present.
John
